I am a PhD Candidate in Counselling Psychology at McGill University where I am researching the lasting effects of maltreatment in childhood and how it influences future parenting behaviors. I have a broad range of experiences working in the hospital, McGill university counselling clinic, private practice clinics, as well as in the context of research where I trained in assisting individuals who have struggled with sexual assault trauma, major depressive disorder, personality disorders and relationship challenges, childhood trauma and substance use issues. I provide therapy services to individuals and couples under supervision of Dr. Zofia Czajkowska, employing various therapeutic approaches tailored to meet my clients’ specific needs. I help my clients achieve their goals using techniques from Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Schema Therapy. I enjoy working with people struggling with relationship difficulties, complex trauma (having gone through a challenging childhood), anxiety, as well those striving for self-acceptance, and redefining their identity. I aim to establish a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients, facilitating a space for exploration and personal growth. I approach therapy with a non-judgmental, empathetic, and authentic mindset. I firmly believe that the work of therapy extends beyond the confines of the therapy room, and I actively encourage all my clients to take proactive steps towards achieving their desired goals. I am therapist with a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University. In my training I gained experience working with a range of clients facing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and addiction. Beginning with the belief that each person has the capacity to heal and grow, I offer a helping hand while drawing on evidence-based interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness-based approaches.
Above all, I bring empathy, non-judgment and genuine interest into all my sessions. I strive to create a comfortable and trusting environment where my clients feel respected and heard. Working collaboratively, I help to identify and pursue goals that enhance coping and increase purpose in life. I have experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and welcome anyone into my sessions. Prior to entering the mental health space, I was an academic historian. I earned my PhD in history from the University of Oxford, where I also taught undergraduates. I have lived and conducted research in several countries, including the UK and India. These experiences inform my curiosity about people and my attention to detail.
